Album Review

Turn on the Bright Lights (2002) released by Interpol and published by Matador Records

A defining album of the NY 00. It harkened back to 70s-80s post punk, with it's moody baritone vocals, punchy bass, rhythmic drums and edgy guitar interplay. From the first song "Untitled",the heavy, lucid atmosphere of the album is clear. At times, the album lets you drift away with dreamy songs like NYC, Hands Away, Leif Erikson, before pulling you back in with the rampant energy of songs like PDA, Say Hello to the Angels, and Roland. Not to mention Specialist, a B-side that would have created a 10/10 album if it was actually on the tracklist.

Score: 9.5/10
